Participation

Orchestra rehearsals are designed to accomplish the required material in a certain time frame. Therefore, it is the responsibility of each member to report on time for every rehearsal or performance. Prompt, reliable attendance at all classes, rehearsals and performances is required for membership in the orchestra. Any absences must be pre-arranged with Ms. Simms.

Instruments

Each member is expected to come prepared with their instrument (personal or school rental) and their folder of music to each rehearsal or performance. Members sharing school instruments are responsible for making any after-school rehearsal arrangements.

Each member is responsible for setting up their own equipment for rehearsals. The rehearsal room is equipped with chairs, stands and cabinets for our daily use and it is the responsibility of each orchestra member to see that everything is stored away properly following rehearsals or concerts. Rental instruments are assigned in the fall and each student is responsible for the care and replacement of their assigned instrument if damaged. Personal and rental equipment needs to be stored in the designated rooms or lockers and secured daily. Lost or damaged equipment/music will be replaced by the student. The student is also responsible for replacing rosin, strings, and lost or broken bows. If an instrument is left unattended and it gets damaged, the student is responsible for the repair. Information on instrument repair.

Uniforms

Members of the orchestra are required to dress in the appropriate uniform for all performances and competitions. During September, the Boosters parent organization distribute concert uniforms: Men wear tuxedo shirt, tie and tuxedo pants. Women wear glitter black tops, and tuxedo pants or skirt. Uniforms are property of the Woodson Orchestra Booster Patrons and are maintained by the boosters yearly. Members are required to rent their uniform each school year and are in charge of maintenance during the rental period. Glitter tops are not rental, but a one time purchase. If a uniform does not fit properly after rental, it is the responsiblity of the parent to contact a Booster officer for an exchange. At the end of the school year, the student MUST dry clean their rental items and return to the boosters with a dry cleaning slip attached. Uniforms without a dry cleaning receipt cannot be accepted and any member who has not returned their uniform by deadline will be charged a late fee of $5 per day. Any lost rental items are the responsiblity of the student to replace.

All students are required to wear black dress shoes, closed-toed pumps for women. Flip flops, sandals, tennis shoes are unacceptable concert/competition dress. Students should wear black socks or natural stockings (women) with their shoes.
